The hatching of a plan

In August 2010 Hayley and myself finally tied the knot and got hitched and in September we went off on our honeymoon for two weeks in the Maldives. Two weeks of doing nothing was bliss but after about a week we started thinking about what physical event I was going to be doing in 2011.

This year with colleagues from work we managed to get a triathlon organised and we had 50 people participating and raised about £9000 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and The Chase Childrens Hospice. The charity donations for me were however a side line to the best bit of the event which was the training.

All of those hours sat in the saddle were the best excuse to get fit and get some peace and quiet or if I felt like it going out with groups.

So I started throwing ideas at Hayley which included swimming the channel but this wasn't really suited to me being as I start drowning after about 10m. Walking the Wainwrights walk but this would take too long and I don't really like walking and then the best idea of them all, Lands End to John O'Groates.

So that was it, the best idea I had ever had apart from my modesty swimming suit for women that I have yet to get patented but in case you are wondering it basically prevents the camel toe situation from occurring. Needless to say this idea was dreamt up on the beach!

So that's it we've made our minds up that we will be camping and hiring a small van so the dog can come and the wife will be doing my support. Now just need to up my training regime and get my nutrition right so I can build up some muscle in my legs and be ready for next year.

The major downside is my old speshy allez is broken and needs every component replacing so after much uhmming and arrghing Hayley has permitted me to 'invest' in a new trusty steed which I will affectionately call Dave.

I am more than happy to help a charity to raise some cash but I would say apart from setting up a just giving page I would want any charities representative to do their own canvassing and collecting cash. Email me if you would like me to consider your charity on marc.robertsATbeardswindon.co.uk.
